In Memory of Those Who Have Served

Memorial Day, formerly known as Decoration Day, originated in 1865 as a way to honor fallen Civil War soldiers.  It was first observed in 1866 and every year thereafter.  Each year the headstones at Arlington National Cemetary each receive an American Flag.  Our thoughts and prayers go to all families grieving a fallen soldier this Memorial Day weekend.

And I am proud to be an American,
where at least I know I’m free.
And I won’t forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.
