Sailing or Just Drifting?

Pressure Purifies and Perfects
The gem cannot be polished without friction. Chinese proverb
A person can tell more about another’s character not by what he says, or for that matter what he does during good times. The best way to test a persons character is to see what they do under pressure. When opposition arises how do they handle it? Do they remain steadfast in their positions or do they give into the pressure of the opposition and acquiesce to their demands? When challenged to take a stand do they remain upright or do they falter and sway like a sail in the wind?
Although a sail boat can be moved by a sail it takes a rudder to maintain a steady course. Being tossed about by every wind that blows is not how men or women of character are supposed to act. They should be guided by the rudder of their convictions. The true test of maturity is the ability to stand firm against the strongest adversarial wind. Standing true to what you believe, holding fast to what you profess.
Then we will no longer be little children, tossed and carried about by all kinds of teachings that change like the wind. We will no longer be influenced by people who use cunning and clever strategies to lead us astray. Ephesians 4:14Open Link in New Window (GW)

Great truth here–in both the Chinese Proverb and the Sail boat analogy. This made me really stop and think. Thanks.
