Take Time to Rest

“Remember the day of worship by observing it as a holy day. You have six days to do all your work. The seventh day is the day of worship dedicated to the Lord your God. You, your sons, your daughters, your male and female slaves, your cattle, and the foreigners living in your city must never do any work {on that day}. Ex 20:8-10Open Link in New Window (GW)

In the world today, it is very easy to get so incredibly caught up in all the demands that culture places on us that we don’t have any time to spend with God. More and more is demanded of us that often times we forget what is really important. I doubt anyone who finds themselves diagnosed with a fatal disease will say I wish I had spent more time working. It is usually at the end of our lives that we take the time to reflect.

Why wait until your life is over to pause long enough to consider what is really important.Society will eat up every waking moment of your life if you allow it. Non-essentials will soon crowd out what is important if they are not filtered through the lens of eternity. We accumulate so much junk in our lives as we live in this fast-paced world that many become consumed by the junk and miss out on the joys of life.

The Lord commanded us to take one day and keep it set apart for the worship of God. Six days were enough for any man to work according to God’s blueprint. One day was to be set aside as a day to pause and meditate on the blessings God has bestowed upon us. How many today actually pause long enough to consider that everything we have is a gift from God? God has even given us the very breath we breathe.

Seven days without God makes one weak, but fill each day with the presence of God and you can do even greater things than you can even think or imagine. And making sure that you devote one 24 hour period to the Lord to honor and worship Him makes for a fulfilled life. Try it, it will change your whole outlook on life.

“Don’t ever worry and say, ‘What are we going to eat?’ or ‘What are we going to drink?’ or ‘What are we going to wear?’ Everyone is concerned about these things, and your heavenly Father certainly knows you need all of them. But first, be concerned about his kingdom and what has his approval. Then all these things will be provided for you. Matt 6:31-33Open Link in New Window (GW)

But as Scripture says: “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined the things that God has prepared for those who love him.” 1 Cor 2:9Open Link in New Window (GW)

We may think we know what is best for us but I have learned to trust in the word of God as the guide-book to my life and it has proven to be the best guide-book of all. If you feel that you can not afford to take one day off to spend with the Lord then you can not afford not to.

And that is this weeks “word to the wise”

The wise of heart will heed commandments, but a prating fool will come to ruin. Prov 10:8Open Link in New Window (RSV)

The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes; Psalms 19:7-8 (NKJV)
